Concrete becomes one of the most popular materials in the interior design. It is used everywhere, including for the table top. If you do not know how to update the furniture, update the old table, but you want it to have a modern look, slightly in the style of Loft, then concrete will be the best assistant.
You can turn the old wooden table into a very modern, with an artificial concrete surface.
This is a rather light project. Perhaps you will like it. Let's do that.
In order to update the old table, the following materials will be needed:
Concrete
Putty knife
Capacity for mixing concrete
Old rags
Concrete sealant
Step 1: In a well-ventilated room, place your old one. Clean the entire surface of the table top.
Step 2: Prepare the surface by filling out the existing holes and cracks, slightly grinding, and then clean the surface, it will be covered with concrete trim.
Step 3: Mix the concrete in accordance with the instructions on the package. The substance must be sufficient enough to stay in place, but that it was easy to work with it, causing to the surface.
Step 4: Starting from the sides of your table, spread the concrete thin, smooth layer.
Tip: Put a little more concrete at the corners. This tiny addition will give you more opportunities in the grinding manner.
Step 5: Continue with a spatula to cover the old table with a thin, smooth layer over the entire surface. Make a smooth surface according to your preferences.
Step 6: Severy rough surface using thin sandpaper.
Step 7: Let the concrete finish completely dry, at least 24 hours. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations. Re-apply the next layer, trying to make it thin, filling any existing gaps in the primer.
Tip: The wider the spatula is, the easier it is to smooth the finish from concrete.
Step 8: Let the tabletop completely dry, another 24 hours. Repeat the grinding process and draw another three or five layers.
Tip: When applying subsequent layers, cover the entire surface. Even if half of the desktop looks perfectly after three layers, make the surface looks homogeneous. Each layer of finishes will have its own shade, which will be slightly different from the rest, and maybe it will look strange.
Step 9: When you finish and float the entire surface of the old table, or rather new, and it is carefully and completely dry, it's time to think about surface sealing. Use a specific sealant (affordable in business stores), and follow the instructions.
At the very least, apply two layers of sealant if the surface will often touch with water, then it is possible.
Step 10: Let the sealant dry out completely, and .... Voila !!
Cut it yourself and enjoy your new, modern table.
Tip: Despite the fact that the concrete surface may look somewhat coarse, it will be perfectly smooth to the touch, if you deployed it well after each layer.
