WD-40 is a solvent with the addition of mineral oil. The product has a low viscosity, which allows you to use it as an aerosol and penetrate any, even the most minor openings, cavities or cracks.
The popularity of WD-40 is explained by its efficiency and ability to help unscrew any threaded compound. Such an action WD-40 is provided by its composition and principle of action: the volatile solvent (white spirit) corps and softens various types of contaminants, and after it evaporates on the treated surface there remains non-volatile lubricant (mineral oil), which provides protection of parts or slight rejunction of the thread.
Note! The market presents a lot of fakes and analogues of WD-40, which, with external similarities, have another composition and purpose. It is for this reason that the dispute on the effectiveness of WD-40 is being carried out so far, and the feedback about it is ambiguous: he helped, and some after the use of fake metal parts were covered with rust. Therefore, it is recommended to acquire a product in specialized stores, and not in questionable sellers in the market.
The standard scope of WD-40 is very extensive: from helping in spinning rusty bolts to conservation of various mechanisms and equipment. But in addition, the aerosol solvent can be used to solve non-standard tasks. Some unusual ways to use WD-40 are discussed below.
Easy cleaning of hands from technical pollution
Since the WD-40 contains a solvent, they can easily wash fat and oil hands, for example, after the engine is bulkhead. Spraying a little means in hand, they are wiping with a rag for removing contaminants, after which it is necessary to thorough hands thoroughly with soap several times.

Removal of old stickers
Removal of stickers from any surface is a very ungrateful occupation. No matter how carefully, the sticker will still be bored, and the adhesive base will remain on the surface. In order not to remove the glue mechanically and do not scratch the surface, you can use WD-40. To remove the stickers, it is enough to apply a little liquid from the aerosol can, wait 3-5 minutes, after which the remnants of the glue from the surface are easily removed using a napkin.
Remove marker
The aerosol solvent is also useful to remove the inscriptions with a marker on various surfaces. To do this, spray WD-40 on the inscription or moisten the napkin. With smooth surfaces, the marker is deleted quite easily. If the inscriptions with a marker are made on absorbing or rough surfaces, it is necessary to wipe several times.
Tip! All non-metallic surfaces after using WD-40 are recommended to rinse with soap solution to remove the solvent residues and lubrication.
Snow helping help
When cleaning the wet snow, it constantly sticks to the shovel, which significantly complicates and without that difficult. In the fight against snow to the rescue, this is a versatile agent.
To do this, WD-40 is applied to the surface of the shovel on both sides, and after 3-5 minutes, the treated surface is cleaned with a rapid, to remove all softened sediments and foreign substances. Even such a material as stainless steel, from which kitchen sinks are made, are subject to different deposits. To clear the metal surface from difficult to display spots, use WD-40. After spraying, the means to pollution should be waited for about 5 minutes so that the solvent is absorbed into deposits. Softened deposits are removed by a plastic scraper, and if necessary, processing is repeated.

Purification of metal and cast iron products from rust
WD-40 is excellent for cleaning the metal (including cast iron) from rust. To the surface, affected by rust or other sediments, is applied and allowed to stand 3-5 minutes. In order for the solvent slower to evaporate, the pipe or another product can be wrapped with a moistened tool. After the rust softened a little, proceed to mechanical cleaning with the help of grinding, emery paper or other grinding devices. Such processing significantly accelerates the rust removal process and prevents its re-education.
Processing of vinyl records
To remove contamination and simultaneous lubrication of the plates, you can use a small napkin, slightly moistened with this agent. The napkin carefully wipe the plate, removing the wax dirt layer accumulated on the vinyl. But at the same time too diligently and abundantly wet the plate is not worth it.
How not to use WD-40
Finally, consider several examples and areas where WD-40 should not be used:
- Any electronics: The solvent contained in the aerosol is able to eat some plastics and subtle paths on e-board.
- Door loops, cycling and other chains. For these purposes, it is better to use conventional lubricant on a fatal basis.
- Door locks. If the larva of the castle is jammed, it can be sought to lubricate it with the help of an aerosol, but it is not worth it for a long action as a lubricant.
- Rubic cube and other plastics. As already noted, WD-40 can lead to softening or destruction (melting) of some plastics. Therefore, for these purposes, the silicone spray is recommended, and not a solvent-based agent.
