Everyone knows that products made of genuine leather are long enough. The service life of such products is several years, but sometimes real long-livers come across.
I want to talk a little about the restoration of handmade leather products that served as our owners not one dozen years. I really hope that they will rush very long!
This handbag, which is more than 50 years old, brought me in a sad form - the top layer of the skin cracked and rotted, the side parts came into disrepair, the drawing is practically erased. Time and garage storage in the polyethylene pack left on it a terrible imprint. There was no special hope to restore it.
When I see such products, with warmth and love by human hands, I just can not pass by. Therefore, I decided to try to do everything possible and try to renovate what is possible.
And began with what I just disassembled it.
It was not clear that all carriages would have to change, because they simply crumbled in their hands. From the original only the front and the rear did.
Restoration. The cracked upper layer burned greatly, and if you pick it up with a nail - just fell off. Armed with emery paper, very carefully shot the background, without touching the picture.
To distinguish embossing used several colors of an art carcass for the skin. The background was treated with black, and the drawing itself is a few shades of brown. Although painted brown, apparently, but the brown turned into a burgundy, so the handbag changed its original color.
Replaceable parts chopped out of angry skin, 4 mm thick. Painted everything in the main color, treated with varnish.
Next - assembly. The assembly cord is very dense. In order not to damage the holes on the restored details, I had to cut the face from it from the inside and handle with wax.
After the assembly, the cord and the sidewalls are slightly cracked to give them aged form. And that's what happened.
I hope this handbag will serve many more years.
We live in the age of "disposable" things and sometimes do not even think about what can be fixed and returned the beauty of the product, having worked a little over it. Restoration is a difficult job, sometimes it is easier to make a new thing than to mess around with the old one. But it is worth it! When such things come back to life - mood rises.
