Box for drugs, needlework or important papers ... If you are inclined to sort and organize, you know that order in the house requires many small storage spaces. So why not save on the purchase of boxes and do not make some do it yourself?
1. From felt
Fetra baskets from Dane Emma, author's blog Design and Form, like us to make them very simple, and they will look guaranteed well. Suitable for storing logs or some trifles on racks in any room.
You will need:
- felt;
- scissors;
- line;
- Macate knife;
- pencil.
Step 1. Take a piece of felt sizes 48 x 43.4 cm. Make the corners of 4 rectangular cuts, measuring from each angle 12 cm horizontally and 14 cm vertically.
Step 2. Make cuts with a length of 2 cm horizontally from the resulting internal angles (in the photo the place of the cut is designated by purple lines).
Step 3. Make a paper template with a size of 2 x 14 cm - it will help you to outline the seams. Mark the width of the tissue strip on the template, which will serve as a "thread" (in Example - 0.7 cm). The length of the stitches and the distance between them can be made by any, for example, 1.5 cm. Make sure that all stitches are finished, that is, the number of cuts for them was even. So the ends of the "Thread" will be inside the box.
Step 4. Put the template on the edge of the future wall of the box (along the edge of the cutout you did at the very beginning) and start making slots under the seams. They should be a couple of millimeters wider than the width of the "thread". Repeat 8 times along all edges.
Step 5. Cut from the fabric four strips - "Threads" with a length of about 16 cm. When they are ready, start stitching the walls. Move from the bottom up and do not forget that the tip of the strip should remain on the wrong one.
Step 6. Continue to sew boxes, carefully rubbed fabric strips through the slots. You can use the tip of the pencil or another sharp object to push them. When the seam is finished, secure the "thread" and cut the surplus. Instead of tissue strips, you can use leather shoelaces, braid or other tight material.
The box is ready!
2. From shoe boxes
A very simple lesson from Helen, leading his blog Mormorsglamour on the portal of the Swedish Elle Decoration. The result depends on the quality of the paint that you will use, so that we would make such boxes with the calculation on the fact that they will become modules in white rack, and they will not stand by themselves in a prominent place as in the photo.
You need:
- shoe boxes;
- paint;
- brush;
- awl;
- strip of skin;
- Macate knife;
- rivets;
- line;
- a hammer;
- cutting board.
Step 1. Color boxes. Paint can be taken acrylic - ordinary or for fabric. Depending on the density of paint and the color of the boxes, you will need 1-3 layers.
Step 2. Cut from skin strips of about 2.5 x 13 cm. To work out exactly, use a ruler (better metallic) as a guide for a knife.
Step 3. Do on both ends of the hole with a seboard (or drill).
Step 4. Do the hole in the box lid.
Step 5. Bend the skin strip in half and insert the rivet into the hole. Stick rivet into the lid.
Step 6. Fasten the rivet with the hammer.
Put something into the box and close the lid. Ready!
3. From the old sweater
Finally, the last project is not the most stylish, but very cozy. The author of the blog Thrifty and Chic Alisha is a mother of two children, a lover of order and an opponent in order to throw out the boxes. It is not surprising that she decided to turn the boxes from diapers into cute storage tanks.
You need:
- box;
- sweater;
- scissors;
- Macate knife;
- glue pistol;
- Cotton ropes.
Step 1. Cut the top of the box. It is easier to make a cutter or a sharp knife, not scissors.
Step 2. Put on the box sweater and mark where it will need to trim. From above and below, the reserve should remain about 5 cm.
Step 3. Put the sweater on a flat surface and gently cut in a straight line.
Step 4. Again the sweater on the box. If it is too wide, you have to cut it, remove too much and sew again. Generate the excess fabric (embedded earlier than 5 cm) to the bottom and glue to the box.
Step 5. Generate the excess fabric inside the box and fix with a glue gun. If you decide the neat bottom edge of the Sweaters to bend down to the bottom, and turn the freshly cut-down inside, you can glue the edge to the braid so that the fabric does not appear and the edge looked more careful.
Step 6. Handles can be made of cotton rope. If they are needed only for beauty, stick them straight to the fabric. If you want more functionality, you should sew the handles to the box.
