Each spring Cordoba flources to a special holiday of flowers in the month of May. It begins with a parade known as the "Battle of Flowers".
The courtyard competitions are sponsored by the building of the Kordov Municipality and began in 1918. Due to the hot and dry climate in Cordove, the houses were built with a central courtyard since the time of Romans. This tradition was continued by the Moors and remains in many houses even today. Filling a central courtyard with flowers and water features has always been a way to keep local houses cool. But thanks to the human creative potential and ingenuity, the artistic design of the courtyard ended in the way that the life and features of each family living in it were displayed.
