Make this edible paper in just 10 minutes and use it for secret messages, decorative products and many other things!
Paper is usually made of vegetable material, so why not make it from food plants? The cells of each plant are surrounded by rigid fibrous material, called cellulose. When grinding and impregnation, tiny fibers are connected to each other associated with the force of intermolecular interaction, called Van der Waals forces.
Those photos that you see on the birthday cakes are printed on wafer paper made of vegetable starch. In China, rice paper is used for edible candy wrappers, and in Vietnam, the rice paper of another type is used to wrap Spring Rolls.
You can use edible paper to create cards to specify space on special dinners, Sweet storage boxes or for secret messages. (Give after reading!) Here is a quick and simple recipe for rice paper in Vietnamese style.
Preparing edible paper
Ingredients:
- Rice flour, 1 tablespoon
- Potato Starch, 1 tablespoon
- Cold water, 1½ tablespoons
- pinch of salt, at will
1. Prepare the mixture
Wake up rice flour, potato starch, salt and cold water together. It should be about the same consistency as a hubble.
2. Form a sheet
Tension the plastic film across the plates, tightly like a drum. Pour the mixture on the plastic film. Tilt to spread the mixture of at least 20 centimeters in diameter.
3. Prepare
Put in the microwave at a maximum for 45 seconds. Use tacks for the oven to flip the plate upside down on the wax paper. Remove the plate, then carefully remove the plastic film. Your edible paper will be twisted when cooled. Cut square so that it remains flat. Store 1-2 days in a zipper package.
To add color and fragrance: Try a bit of vanilla, cinnamon, orange juice, maple syrup, coconut milk, banana puree or berries. Adjust the ingredients to get the right thick.
To write notes on your edible paper: buy markers with edible inks or make your own ink, boil grape or cranberry juice to density. Or try edible paint from molten chocolate!
