Rafting on the river on the raft of polystyrene foam

As part of the preparation for the new construction season, we decided to make an unusual alloy along the Nara River on the raft assembled from the sheets of extruded polystyrene foam. The route was held from Naro-Fominsky to the Chekhov district of the Moscow region, partially passing through the territory of the Kaluga region. We collected a raft out of 8 sheets of polystyrene and 6 boards, which could have been cut out without any problems and a large amount of equipment, including an exclusive Mangal of aerated concrete, assembled on the mounting foam. In just 6 hours we passed on the river about 30 kilometers.

The structural design is very simple. Our task is to make a raft using a minimum of materials. We used the sheets of extirized polystyrene foam of increased density (used in the construction of the foundations like a Swedish plate) with dimensions of 2400x600x100 mm. In total, it took 1 cubic meter (2 packs of 4 sheets in each). For reliable bonding sheets, I used the board with a cross section of 100x50 mm (it was possible to use more subtle 100x40, but this sizes were not on sale in the nearest market). All required 4 boards of 5 meters long and 2 boards of 3 meters long (diagonal). For tight fixation, studs with self-locking nuts and large washers were used. There are 9 fixing points. Diagonal boards are needed in order to eliminate the skeletal of the design.

Collected all the components on the plot. Initially, they thought to collect a raft directly on the shore, but then decided to take it in the collected form on the trailer, especially since the river is just a couple of kilometers.

In the assembly process, the design of the remaining materials was slightly finalized (the boards sell 6 meters long, and I needed only 5). Made a triangular nasal part to make it easier to brag the dawns. We faced a very nontrivial task, how to carry a five-meter (and on a six-meter) raft at a two-meter trailer. I had to lengthen the drawing of the trailer with the help of a rope and another board.

We arrived and unloaded on the shore of Nara near the village of Melnikovo. We descend the raft on the water, check the buoyancy and overload things. The hardest thing in the design of the fleet is the board, but 4 people will be able to move the raft without any problems (its mass is about 100 kilograms). If we assume that the polystyrene foam has already been, the budget of the construction of the fleet was funny 2 thousand rubles (1000 rubles of boards and about 1000 rubles stud / nuts / rope).

The design of the fleet was very strong, despite the skepticism commentators in Instagram, where I published the first drawing of the flesh. On the fact of such a raft, it is impossible to drown or break in principle.

Rowing rowing, and lunch - on schedule. For a swim, I made a special brand from thin aerated concrete blocks with a thickness of 50 mm and D500 density. Blocks glued to the usual mounting foam for windows and doors. Mangala construction budget - 144 rubles for 4 aerated concrete blocks and a bit of mounting foam. Light!

The water level in Nare is now slightly higher than the usual, about 50 centimeters. Although Nar is very small and its average depth does not exceed one and a half meters.

We started at noon, which means it's time to dine.

A mangal of aerated concrete in our time will not surprise anyone. Aerated concrete on the mounting foam is also a trivial story, so long ago build houses for a long time. But the floating barbell from the aerated concrete was glued to the mounting foam - this is something new.

The first 10 kilometers of the flow rate of the flow was about 4-5 kilometers per hour.

Beauty! With you, we took a battery saw to fight the ruins on the way and she really came in handy several times (see details in the video). Although, as practice has shown, the battery saw is not sealed and is not designed to work in water.

Rainbow waterfall is a famous landmark on the border of the Kaluga and Moscow regions.

In the Kaluga region we were waiting for the most serious obstacle for the entire route - concrete dam. During the passage through her, the raft clinched nuts located on the bottom side of the rear studs. The raft covered the wave, which did not allow to lift and release the raft. As a result, we managed to push the raft from the obstacles, but in the process of struggle with the elements we lost a package with food (it was untied from the fleet at this moment) and one paddle. Just below, we found the paddle in the branches around the shore and took it. This moment is in detail on the video.

In the evening, the sun was briefly looked like.

And then the fog fell over the river.

The width of the river increased and the flow rate dropped sharply to the funny 2 kilometers per hour. I had to flush a little on the oars to get to the intermediate stop point.
